Neurotoxin FAQ’s

At Opulence Chicago we offer three different forms of neuromodulators - most commonly referred to as botox or tox!

Botox, Dysport and Jeuveau are crafted from a purified form of Botulinum toxin (neuromodulator or neurotoxin). These neurotoxins temporarily halt the muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles to form when you make facial expressions, such as smiling, squinting, and frowning. Results from these injections approximately last 3-4 months, with appropriate dosing.

All three of our neuromodulators are FDA approved medications administered by licensed professionals to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with consistent treatments in order to prevent new wrinkles/fine lines.

Botox vs. Dysport vs. Jeuveau

All neuromodulators have been FDA approved to help minimize fine lines and wrinkles. They are administered the same way and the end results are similar. There are some minor differences in the products themselves. Botox has been on the US market and approved by the FDA since 1995. Dysport is newer to the US market but has been approved for use on the European market since December of 1990. Dysport has a smaller molecular size which allows for the product to start working more quickly (usual onset of 3-5 days) vs. Botox (5-7 days).

How Often Do I Need To Be Treated Or How Long Does It Typically Last?

Every person is different and everyone can metabolize the product differently. However, we recommend treatment every 3-4 months. Why? Consistent treatment has shown to soften etched in lines over time. It also helps prevent new lines/wrinkles from forming. Consistency is key for optimal results.

What Are The Most Commonly Treated Areas?

Typically, the most commonly treated areas are the glabella (the infamous 11’s), the frontalis  (forehead) and the crows feet (around the eyes). Ideally, when treating the upper face we want to treat these areas together to provide a seamless transition and cohesive look. Sometimes, not treating all of these areas together can cause other muscles to compensate and recruit causing lines to form in other areas. Treatments are not limited to just these areas. The influx in patients coming in for TMJ and facial slimming, hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweat) and even treating their traps to relieve muscle tension is becoming more and more popular. You can discuss any areas of concern with your injector and together we can come up with a plan of care.

Getting Ready For Your Appointment | Do’s and Don’ts

• Avoid any aspirin, ibuprofen or alcohol 24-48 hours prior to your appointment to minimize chances of bruising

• No vigorous exercise 24 hours after treatment

• Avoid make up for the remainder of the day after treatment.

• Do not lie down for 3-4 hours following treatment.

• Avoid any facials, facial treatments, massages or any type of facial manipulation for 2 weeks after treatment

• You may use your normal skin products the night of treatment.

When Should I Consider Starting Treatments?

There is no hard and fast rule of when to start treatment with neurotoxins. Treatment with neurotoxins such as Botox/Dysport is cleared by the FDA for adults 18 years of age and older. There are several different factors that could impact when someone decides to start treatment. The average age is mid 20’s. Treatment with neuromodulators is not just for existing lines/wrinkles it is also used frequently preventatively. *There is a minimum injectable treatment charge of $150 on all neurotoxin treatments. Some of these treatments are considered add-on services and will be charged the minimum amount.
